Why do so many people believe in supernatural things?

Many people believe in supernatural things because it makes our lives easier.  When it comes to situations out of our control, people tend to turn to the higher entities, like a god. They start praying when things get out of hand. It might make them feel less alone and more secure. Besides religious beliefs, there are also horoscopes, tarot readings, charms - believing in them gives people an excuse for their negatives characteristics and actions or it just gives them hope for a better future.  Even despite science people believe in supernatural things because it brings them comfort.
