Reflection #6

Everywhere you look you see posters about Black Friday and all the sales. It made me think about it and particularly the event happening in Poland. Because what is Black Friday?  It is an informal name for a Friday following the Thanksgiving and is regarded as the beginning of America's Christmas shopping season. It makes sense as there are very big sales and after all, it is a tradition. But what does this has to do with Poland and it's traditions? That Friday I was actually in the shopping center because I finished my lessons quite early and I needed to buy something to eat. I was very surprised at the number of people at the mall at 12 am. The crowds were everywhere and the shops were full to the brim. When I did come into one shop all I saw were lots of clothes from old collections and sales that weren't really worthwhile. I still don't understand the idea of Black Friday in Poland.

  1. The idea I guess is simple: make people come to the shops and, once they're there, they will buy something anyway because otherwise they will consider the whole effort a waste of time. Spend, spend, spend. And before Christmas we're all more vulnerable to such tricks.
